今日は、副都心の広大な公園でバイクの新型車の展示イベントが開催されました。その中で、私はライダーモデルとして新型車に座り、ポージングを決めて注目を集めることと、時折、自身が受け持つバイクの商品説明員の役割も果たすことになりました。
しかし、今回の展示イベントの仕事は、何とも言えない不満が募る内容でしたので、吐き出し先としてこの日記で述べたいと思います。まず、担当した車種についてです。他のモデルたちはリッタークラスのビッグバイクを宛がわれる中で、私が担当したバイクは趣味用のミニバイクでした。もちろんミニバイクであっても、特定のカテゴリーを代表する立派なバイクであり、依頼された仕事を断るだけの理由にはなりませんのでモヤモヤしました。続いて、コスチュームです。このメーカーのバイクはアメリカンスポーツを代表するデザインで、レザー調のセクシーコスチュームとの相性は抜群です。しかしながら、このバイクとこのコスチュームが組み合わさった時に、カワイイとカッコイイの化学反応で、妙なアンバランスさを生み、とても滑稽な雰囲気を醸し出す結果となりました。そこに、日頃から子供達が遊ぶ公園が展示会場という条件が重なり、本来バイク展示会に来ないような、空気を読めない小学生や幼稚園児から「なんかあのお姉ちゃんかっこ悪いね」、「ママ、あの人のバイクだけ何で変なの？」と心のない言葉を浴びせられ、それを横で聞いたバイクファンの来場者からも、クスクス笑われたり、ニヤニヤされる結果に陥りました。
全体的に振り返れば、商品も、コスチュームも、場所も全く問題がなく、バイクメーカーや広告代理店が真剣に企画したことと理解していますが、そこまで徹底しても、誰もが意図しない不幸な状況に陥る人が今日ここに居たことを知ってもらいたいです。
Today, an event showcasing new motorcycle models was held in a large park in the sub-center of the city. In this event, I was to sit on the new models as a rider model, posing and attracting attention, as well as occasionally serving as a product explainer for the bikes I was assigned to take care of.
However, my work on this exhibition event has been so frustrating that I cannot say what it was, and I would like to describe it in this diary as a place to vent. First, let me talk about the models I was in charge of. While the other models were assigned to liter-class big bikes, the bike I was in charge of was a mini-bike for hobby use. Of course, I was bothered because even a mini-bike is a respectable bike that represents a particular category, and that is not a reason to simply turn down a job. Then there are the costumes. This manufacturer’s motorcycle is designed to represent American sports, and it is a perfect match for the leathery sexy costume. However, when this motorcycle and this costume were combined, the chemical reaction between kawaii and cool created a strange imbalance, resulting in a very funny atmosphere. The exhibition was held in a park where children play on a regular basis, which led to a lot of unintentional comments from elementary school and kindergarten children who would not normally come to a motorcycle exhibition, such as “That sister is so uncool,” and “Mom, why is her bike the only strange bike? and “Mom, why is her bike the only one that looks weird?” The result was that visitors who heard these comments from the side, who were also motorcycle fans, either giggled or grinned.
Looking back on the whole thing, I understand that there was absolutely nothing wrong with the product, the costumes, or the location, and that it was a serious plan by the motorcycle manufacturer and the advertising agency, but I want people to know that even with such thoroughness, there were people here today who fell into an unfortunate situation that no one intended.
